Fire extinguishers and blankets.

I have been given a fire extinguisher for my van. Now, the manufacturers, NCC, the club's and magazines all recommend them, but no vans are fitted with either, nor are there dedicated locations for them. Do any of you use them? If so, where do you fit them and what fixings do you use?
