sites close to trier

hi all, we have decided we would like to try germany for the first time in sept, could anyone recommend a site within driving/train/bus/walk to trier, we need to be based on a site for a few weeks so need places to see,we have a touring caravan, we have
a acsi card  and have looked thro the books but its mind boggling with a country so big, any help would be appreciated.. else we might end up back in france, happy holidays to all, thanks jean
