Hi, I am after as much information as possible. I have just bought a Eura Mobil 810 & it has a speedometer in Kilometers. I would like one with both KMH & MPH. Are second hand ones /new available and where from? Are there any motorhome dealers that anyone
suggest I talk to?

I have also heard about stickers that can be placed on the clock but can they legally be placed on the outside of the glass because I have heard it can fail an MOT.

I do not want to go down the route of either using a satnav or phone to give me MPH. I want to look at the clock next to the rev counter.

Many thanks & looking forward to your replies.

I once had a scooter that had a speedo in just kilometers, no problem with MOTs .... you soon learn where the major MPH speeds are.

I would leave it alone until you see how the EU referendum turns out.  If we do not leave it will be faily quick that the remaining non-metric activities will be forcably removed. Is your new toy by any chance left-hand drive?  That would be handy for the
change to driving on the right in 2020.  All part of "harmonisation" you know!

Strictly speaking a speedometer marked only in kilometers/hr does not comply with construction and use regulations. The vehicle will pass an MOT though as the speedometer is not a testable item. Stickers on the outside of the glass may not be visible at
night. If you bought it from a dealer it maybe a good idea to take it back as they shouldn't really sell it like that. As an import you could also check that the rear fog lamp is correctly positioned and the headlamps dip the correct way. New speedos can be
very expensive so probably best to try to source a second hand one, e-bay possibly.

My scooter was bought brand new in 2000 .... a Peugeot Speedfight so must've passed some legistlation at the time.

    MSVA wasn't operating then.

Ah! The same test as kit cars then?

Yes, kit cars and imported vehicles that do not have a certificate of conformity. Motorhomes didn't come into the scheme until 2012 hence some imports having kilometer speedos.

I have a Discover 1 County V8, a model that was made for the Japanese market, and the Speedo was KHM only. When it was reimported the dealer had the Scale Disc under the needle replaced, which I understand to be a common practice in such cases, with a one that is MPH/KMH.  The MPH shown is as accurate as can be expected for any speedo of this era but the distance readout is still recorded in Kilometres. Perhaps this is your best way forward.  If I am able to contact the dealer (it’s 10 years since I purchased this vehicle) I will try to get more details on where and how this can be done.

By a Head Up Display. We have one in our Fiat. It's down near the windscreen at the front and projects the speed on the windscreen. Bought ours from amazon about £50. Has it's own GPS so calculation is in the unit itself. Switch on the side changes from MPH to KPH. Really good. Used it in France last year. Wire ours so it automatically comes on with the ignition.
