Towcar MPG

Just interested to know what other people have found for MPG with their various towcars, whatever make or model.

My experience with petrol cars, no matter what it was, was that we always seemed to get around 22mpg or thereabouts when towing. A larger engined car would do (as a rule) slightly less mpg than a smaller engined car when solo, but ALL dropped to about the same 22mpg when towing. (Note: this is with the same caravan for all cars I mention)

That is probably due to the larger engine finding less percentage difference between running solo and then towing, thus the mpg 'ratio' between solo running and towing was less.

Now that I have gone deisel I find I can get around 30 to 32 mpg when towing, sometimes slightly more. Although on one notable run with a very strong headwind all the way it dropped significantly to 24.8mpg!!

Anyone else finding the same, or significant differences?
