Taking a small dog abroad (Moved from How to Use CT)

Hi going to take our little yorkie abroad this year in June 

having never taken a dog in the caravan abroad before just wondered if any one has any tips on where would the best place to go , not sure about leaving her in the car for hours on end while on the ferry 

we do have to use the ferry though because we have a gas car and they are not allowed on the train many thanks Sarah
