Just back from the reservoir Clywedog where we watched 2 Ospreys on the nest.  Can't ident them at the moment but hopefully over the next few days we will get more information and hopefully watch them fishing.

Well  that's   it  for  another  year  at  Loch  Garten.

Sadly,  after  Odin, the  resident  male,  was  driven  off  there  were  no  bobble  heads  to  survive  so  EJ  the  female  has  only  had  the  occasional  young  male  for  company,  and  it  seems  that they  were  not  worth  her  wasting  time  on  surprised.  So  from  lack  of  sightings  it  seems  EJ  is  heading  off  on  an  early  migration  to  somewhere  between  southern  Spain  &  Senegal  coastal  area.

Wonder  if  she'll  be  seen  at  any  of  the  English  sites  for  a  refuelling  pause  ?

Just back from fishing Clywedog. No sign of the adults or young Ospreys. Look as if they have headed South.

Oneputt  reported  on  another  thread  that  he has  seen  Ospreys  over  flying  East  Anglia ( I think it  was  Thetford  Club Site )  so  I  must  assume  at  this  time  of  the  year  that  they  are  this  years  chicks  just  meandering  down  to  southern  Iberia  or  Coastal  Senegal  area.  May  they  get  there  safely  for  a  year  or  so  fattening  and growing  up.

ABM I ťhought Oneputt meant the feathered variety but I believe they were out of the air bases, he may have said USA. I'd commented as I'd not heard of ospreys in this area. He cleared it up on whatever thread it was on 😲 possibly what you up to today.

    Hi All,

The Ospreys (code-name) I was referring to was the American plane flying out of Mildenhall.laughing

However we do regularly have Ospreys over flight and pause to feed on their way in and out of the UK.  At the moment there are 2 around the Strumpshaw area of Norfolk.  Breydon water is a favourite fishing spot as they are very partial to flat fish.

Thanks  to  everybody  for  pointing  out  the  presence  of  high-powered  American  aircraft  of  the  same  name  in  the  East  Anglian  airspace  surprised.  In  future  I'll  have  to  use  the  suffix 'Feathered'  or  the  Latin  name  if  I  can  remember  it  .

Didn't  see  either  variety  of  Osprey  while  I  was  at  Thetford  last  week,  OP  but  I  did  spend  a  while  glaring  at  a  couple  of  muntjac  chomping  away  and  watching  me  while  I  was  also  chomping  away   surprised.

Wonder  if  the  Wardens  could  try  teaching  them  manners  undecided ??

    Indeed  they  have  mickysf  !!

EJ  the  resident  female  at  Loch  Garten  has  returned according  to  BBC Scotland  on  Wednesday  so  she's  had  time  for  a  rest  after  the  flight  home ( If  Scotland  can  be  classed as  'home'  to  a  migratory  bird undecided )

Now  just  time  for  her  to  tart  up the  nest,  which  is  full  of  green  vegetation  that  some  call  grass  and  others  might  call  her  mattress  laughing.  And  after  that,  and  a  fish  or  three  she'll  be  looking  for  a  mate  BUT  will  Odin  make  a  return  or  will  it  be  another  male  ??

    Time  Will  Tell  !!

P.S. / Edit  --  just   had  a  look  at  the  video  from  Loch  Garten  &  the  only  snow  visible  is  a  few  patches  on  one  of  the  distant  higher  hills  so  perhaps  Spring  really  HAS  arrived  cool

And  I've  just  seen,  via  Carnyx  Wild,  EJ  the  'resident'  female  osprey  sitting  on  the  nest  at  Loch  Garten  looking  quite  fit  &  well  after  her  long  flight.  Looking  all  around  and  standing  om  the  edge  of  the  nest  wondering  where  the  " Boss  Bird"  has  got  to laughing !

It's  one  thing  to  be  told  they  have  returned,  but  it's  another  thing  to  see  them  with  ones  own  eyes  .

Have you ever had the feeling you are being watched cool  This cheeky chap was watching my dogs chasing after their ball this morning.

Then on the way out the park this pair of Parakeets came to feed on the berries of a tree.

It was on the local news tonight that the Ospreys are back at Foulshaw Moss. Here's the link to the camera on the nest.

Oneputt, thanks for further links. Have just seen birds at 3 nest sites though still only nest at Lock Garten.  Saw BBC News had a short feature yesterday at Cumbrian site.  Hopefully breeding will be successful for all.

EJ  is  strutting  her  stuff  at  Loch  Garten  now.  One  egg  laid,  but,  by  and  large,  its  being  totally  ignored  I  think.  The  old  girl  does  not  seem  to  be  attracting  many  'boy  friends'  now  and  those  that  do  pop  around  don't  seem  to  understand  what  to  do undecided !!

And  that  means  treat  the  lady  to  a  few  decent  sized  trout  for  starters.  Main  Course  &  pud  could  be  more  of  the  same  wink

We went to the Foulshaw Moss site this morning. The viewing platform is about a mile from the nest site, but we still had great views of the ospreys. One bird on the nest, the other flying over before landing on the nest.

Very friendly helpful wardens on duty, with telescope set up on the nest. Binoculars also free to borrow for those without them.

Called in at nearby Leighton Moss on the way home, raining quite heavily by then so ended up rather wet!

    Good day all round. 😊

Via the link to Dyfi camera in Wales have just read the info about the naming of Blue3J who will now be Telyn - Welsh word for Harp. Hope all goes well at the nest site.

When we're in France in March/April we regularly see Ospreys over the Etang at Leucate and wonder if any of these are 'our' Ospreys.  I've just been watching the first of this year's Glaslyn chicks hatching in a record time!  Hope he/she turns out to be a very strong bird with many years of of osprey life.

Closer to home we're watching 'our' blue tit, who for the third year running has been using our nest box, and she and her partner (new this year) are currently feeding their newly hatched brood.  She has a very distinctive feather pattern.  We haven't looked to see how many chicks there are because we don't want to disturb tham.

She was widowed last year, half-way through breeding, and tried desperately to feed her chicks on her own - but sadly only one fledged and my OH had to remove the five others, but she's nested again in the same box this year!  Hopefully this year will be more successful.
