Caen to Montpelier

Hello - we're taking our large twin-axle to southern France this year.  Only been as far as Dordogne in the past.  We're using Portsmouth-Caen route with an overnight booked at Issoire.  It looks like our planned route will use the A75 but I've just read
about that road not being recommended for larger caravans.  Can anyone offer advice?
