Lakes in France?

CoolHi, the OH and I want to go to France this summer but would like a different sort of holiday.  We would like to go to an area in France that
has quite a few lakes/streams/rivers that you can swim in (instead of the sea) with good local food and fabulous scenery. Not necessarily staying in one place any suggestions?
