Why Bulkhead Regulators?

A few years back the UK industry switched to bulkhead mounted regulators. Innovation! I thought. More convenient, single regulator for Propane and Butane. Excellent. Now we realise that the high pressure "pigtail" connector is unique to each make of gas
bottle and costs as much as a stand-alone regulator. Furthermore, the new bulkhead mounted regulators are very expensive and unreliable, often getting oily deposits and needing replacement. Then, if you have no BBQ point and take the bottle out of the van
you still need a separate regulator.

This is madness. What idiot thought that one up? Where is the advantage? If my regulator fails again I am going back to the conventional arrangement.
