1000 miles with Autoroute tag
We set off from Calais three weeks ago and have travelled South through Reims, Lyon, Marseille, Frejus to the Italian border at Menton, all on Autoroute using the special offer ATMB tag. I have posted on this before and thanks for all the comments. Thought
I would summarise our experiences.
We had a few dodgy moments. The first Autoroute section would not recognise the tag but after that it seemed to work - eventually. Travelling South towards Marseille we got in a long queue at the end of a pay section. The barrier refused to budge so I got
out and walked around the front of the car and pressed the help button - pre-recorded message in French telling me not to leave the car! After waving the tag around in the air like a conductor it finally opened.
Anyway, we discovered that the "drive-through" 30 kph lane works like magic. I figure the sensors must be much better. Now I am a convert.
Cant beat the Autostrada though. 250 miles, 54 Euros and only one ticket for the whole journey. Paid on exit at Laggo di Maggiore after joining at the Med. from the French border.
