Italy's secret
Firstly, thanks to a couple of people who recommended visiting the Italian lakes AFTER the German school holidays which this year finished last Sunday 6th June; the day we arrived.
We are sitting here at Camping Valle Romantica, Cannobio, Lake Maggiore, probably the most attractive site we have stayed anywhere in Europe. It used to be a botanical garden. This is about our tenth visit and in May, July and August it is rammed. Today
there are about 12 pitches taken, nobody in sight, nobody in the pool all day, nobody in the sanitation block 20 yards away. The (usually absent) owner even dropped by for a chat.
Lake Maggiore is arguably the most attractive of the Italian lakes and Cannobio amongst the most attractive of the lakeside towns and villages. It enjoys a micro climate tucked in below the Alps and is so easy to drive to via Switzerland to Locarno (but
not so easy by other transport). Coffee 1 Euro with stunning views of the lake and mountains.
There is one ACSI site in Cannobio and it is packed. It will cost you 35 Euros here but it's worth every Euro.
I don't mind recommending it because by the time everybody gets here we will be on the way home.
