If you can give advice, positive or otherwise, on using the Western Ferries Gourock to Dunoon route towing a caravan, I would be grateful. Is the road on reasonable for towing? A815 north to the A83 at Cairndow.

In answer to your question, the A 815 road from Dunoon to Cairndow via Strachur is fine for caravans, there are tour buses, trucks and caravans using the road regularly .  ( We stayed in a cottage in Strachur a few weeks ago and know the area well ).

The Dunoon ferry and then the A 815 is not the way I would choose to get to Cairndow, but it really does depend  on where you start out.

    Enjoy your holiday Willbee

    Cheers..............K

Haven't taken the caravan by ferry, but we have done the Gourock-Dunoon, Portavardie-Tarbert link to Kintyre, and it was a beautiful journey, very interesting. Some small roads I recall getting to Portavardie. I cannot recall seeing any caravans, or MHs
on the ferries, but it was late Autumn when we did it.
