Will we need an awning mat?

Still trying to get to grips with our change to a motorhome after 30 years caravanning and it is on our drive gradually being filled up for our first trip. Space running out!

The caravan had a Fiamma canopy and Patio Mat. Loved the Patio Mat but it is too big for the Thule canopy area and no space left!  I realise that we are going to be more mobile with the motorhome so don't want too much stuff outside so I am wondering what people do. Full awning groundsheet, just a mat to wipe your feet or something in between?

I was thinking of cutting the Patio Mat down in size as it is a brilliant product, light and easy to clean.

We carry both groundsheet and vango carpet; and a large astroturf mat for the feet! Am quickly becoming expert at packing and unpacking garage!!

No garage, only under bed lockers! Space is very limited.

We just take a door mat, but we did the same with our caravan and rarely used a groundsheet. I'd stick with what you like using. Cutting a mat down to size a bit will probably suit your needs.Smile

As you stay in many hot, and no doubt dusty places I would be inclined to cut your existing mat down and see how you get on. We use the same bit of carpetina that we had with the caravan. Its getting a bit old but it serves its purpose when you are on a sun baked pitch with no grass.

David makes a valid point. I have the same breathable ground sheet as I used when caravanning, but I have the storage space and the weight to carry it all the time. It is hardly ever used in this country but it is useful on those dry dusty Continental pitches
devoid of any grass where I am also more likely to deploy the awning for shade.

Thanks to all. If it isn't hot and dusty we will find somewhere that is! So, maybe a cut-down will work. I'm still hoping to find a hidden locker in the Auto sleepers somewhere.

Our friends who bought the same M/H as yours Hitchglitch have had a rear fiamma box fitted to help with storage space.

We cut down our breathable ground sheet when we moved from caravan to M/H 3 years ago. Rarely used in the UK as we go on H/S but abroad it goes down on most sites. Some pitches can be very small chippings or hard packed sand and as you say some can be devoid
of grass. As we have a PWS towbar the ground sheet rolls up and gets fastened to the inside of the bumper with some velcro straps. It takes minutes to undo and roll out, if it gets wet or dirty it doesn't matter as its not coming into the van.

Thanks Brue. Hadn't heard of that accessory.
