Reverse Polarity and Caravan Wiring

An old chestnut but maybe some new thoughts for all you Electricians/Electrical Engineers out there.

The only problem with operating on a reverse polarity supply that I am aware of is that if you switch an appliance “off” it is actually still connected to the live supply. So why not have un-switched socket outlets on new caravans? Any fixed appliances would
need double pole switches but there are very few (240 volt light fittings?).

Of course there is still a potential problem with any portable appliance that may have an integral single pole switch (fan, TV) but at least you wouldn’t be able to switch it off at the plug and one would hope that anyone meddling with the wiring would therefore
pull the plug out. Does anybody know whether non-UK appliances are fitted with double pole switches or don’t they bother over the channel?
