Motorhome hire in New Zealand

We are thinking of doing this in February next year for about two weeks and woud appreciate any advice.  Have looked at a good Internet site called Discovery Motorhomes and they have all the different types and hire rates.

OH suffers if the beds are too hard so we have 5cm memory foam Duvalays in our motorhome.  Is the bed quality a problem in a hire vehicle?

Any other tips e.g. where to pick-up and where to drop-off?

The alternative would be a hire car and B&B.

hitch I will watch this thread with interest as I am getting close to going I hope!  As a single person I don't want to B & B it but have thought of hiring a nice big car and a tent (and buying a cheap memory foam once there) - and B & B or motel if the
weather doesn't suit.  Spacewagons appeal - and I actually saw one in the flesh in Scotland last year - the bed looked very comfortable - but it didn't really have a lot in it for the money - a couple of rings which were only two of those that burn gas cannisters.
As I understand it - the price can be different if you go the opposite way to others - I think that was starting with South Island and ending on North Island being the cheaper way.  Good luck.

Hire car and motels - rather than B&Bs - was our alternative. Kitchen facilities in motels allowed us to do some of our own meals as we would do in the caravan. Frugality. Smile

We went to NZ last February. Search the internet, there loads of different hire companises charging different prices. Pick up and drop off is either in Christchurch or Auckland. We got ours from a company called Cheepa which is part of Apollo. Although the
layout was basic it was very comfortable for sleeping. We went for a month which was not nearly long enough. When we go again which we will we will spend a month on each island.

Campervan a much better alternative than B&B as you can free camp in NZ in loads of places.

    Best of luck
