The Real Junk Food Project - part two
A cafe in Armley in Leeds, which uses food which is thrown out by supermarkets, has now served 10,000 people since mid 2014, and has started an international movement aimed to prevent good useable food being thrown away. Another similar project has now
opened in Saltaire, Shipley.
All the food used is either supermarket or restaurant 'throw away' - they are in negotiation with one national supermarket chain to take all their 'sell-by' date food. Nando's give all their chicken to the project using the motto 'We don't chuck our chicken'.
Other restaurants are joining in
People just pay what they can afford or what they feel the meal is worth so the cafes are open to all - even those with very little money. Those who have no money at all can do jobs around the restaurant to pay for their food.
A real charity, serving a very useful purpose.
