Trip To Frejus South of France

My partner and i are brand new to carvaning, we intend to have a few weekends out to get used to how things work.  However, we are planning a trip to the Sth of France, Frejus area, and would love to here from anyone who`s done this trip. I hope to be able
to do the journey in 2 days, with a stop over in a service area, there seems to be conflicking advise as to how safe it is to stop over night in a service area. Or does ant-one no of a site to stop at about half way? Also, there seems to be alot of grips about
paying tolls, surely it pays to stay on motorways??  All advise would be much appreciated.
