Remembering the joy of Camping

We stayed at our regular site this year at Lake Maggiore for three weeks after another week exploring Cinque Terra etc. Yet again we struggled to squeeze in our 7.3 meter van and it was largely due to the help of the staff who we know well and our mover that we were able to find a large enough pitch (without booking).

So we sit there with our Alde, microwave, oven, end bathroom ... etc..etc. (most if which we don't use) and a four amp EHU and gaze around. Outside it is 27 to 30 degrees and we see tents, gazebos, canopies, Safari style tents on top of vans, teardrop caravans, Eribas .. you name it, then there is this monstrosity of an English van. The Germans were so curious we had to do a couple of guided tours whilst they looked boggle-eyed.

I am wondering how to rediscover the Joy of Camping without actually having to camp if you see what I mean!
