Commission free foreign transactions - NOT

Well, as they say, there's no such thing as a free lunch.  Thought we would get smart by applying for a Nationwide credit card because people have commented that you can use it in Europe and get commission free purchases.  This is confirmed on the Nationwide web site. Cards arrived today and in the small print it says that you have to spend £5 in the UK to earn £1 commission free purchases abroad.  As we have no intention of cancelling our existing cards and I was cross at the apparent deception I phoned them straight away and cancelled the cards.  Back to pre-paid cash cards for us, at least you know exactly where you stand. Caveat Emptor!
