Tesco 'vouchers' can now be used to pay for a DFDS crossing, including Dover to Calais.

Details here.

Very useful information, so thanks to the original poster, on another forum.   Possibly too late for most this year, but worth looking at when planning for next year.

Apparently they can, but only on the Newcastle - Amsterdam route.

Well, as Newcastle is about 350 miles closer to home, that sounds like a winner for folk like me.

There is a £20 booking fee for that route.  Also, having read some reviews on the Tesco Clubcard website, it appears you must ring to book and people have been charged quite a lot for that phonecall, one call cost £13 apparently as they were on hold for a while.  I don't know what number you have to ring, but there is a website to find alternative numbers for the 0845 and 0870 numbers HERE

I'll stick to the tunnel, no booking fees and changing date/time of crossing costs nothing either, if you have to change.

Yes, a bit confusing, isn't it?  Caravans not accepted on the Dover route.  But according to the Tesco Clubcard website, it's only for crossings to Dunkerque, yet on the DFDS website it states it can also be used for crossings to Calais.  All very confusing....

Actually, from the T&Cs on the Tesco Clubcard website there is this: Please note vouchers can only be used for Economy fares and cars under 2.35m high. Offer does not include caravans.

So are caravans included on the Newcastle route?  It doesn't look like it from the above.

If it is like the "offer" on Wight Link they will only accept vouchers on the standard fares not on any "offers" ,

Sorry it was so misleading - I got all excited and passed on the link without actually reading it.  I shan't do that again!!

It did look a good offer, and if it was anything like the Eurotunnel one, where any vehicle can use it, with no restrictions (other than the fact that you can't use the Tesco vouchers to pay for dogs) then it would have been very good.  I think I must be
more cynical, or suspicious, as these days I never take anything at face value.

I had to pay to change my Eurotunnel booking this year (booked direct). Same time of day so I was sceptical when they said that it was a more expensive crossing. £10 or £15 I think.

    Hitchglitch

I always check the Tunnel price online before changing a booking and have only paid more if indeed it was a more expensive crossing. Because of Eurotunnel pricing structure any change near to the actual crossing day will inevitably be more expensive unless
they are not many bookings for that crossing.

Tesco vouchers can be used for caravans on the Stena Harwich to Holland route. We used them in May this year.

We have changed the date/time of travel a few times, and have only had to pay the difference in price between what the original booking cost and the new booking, but there are certainly no admin fees just for changing.  I do what DK said, check prices online
before changing, and I've not been charged anything if the new price was the same as what I'd already paid.

Yes, I noticed that too.  If you book before 31 October, then it is valid for caravans until 15 December, so still of use if you haven't booked anything yet for later this year.
