Flooding in the Languedoc and some campsite deaths
Terrible flooding has hit large parts of the Herault and Gard areas in the Languedoc last night. See here Midi Libre. Six people are now dead or missing, three from a site at Lamalour Les Bains.
We've just been talking to our French neighbours about this as both of us were nearby at the beginning of this week. We moved on Monday when we read the weather warnings, and I'm so glad we did! They moved yesterday. We heard that there was more than six weeks worth of rain in one night and the rivers rose so suddenly that there was little warming.
Strangely we were sitting here, (near to Revel) watching the storms to the east of us - like a light show against the absolutely clear sky we had here, and wondering where the storms were. It was such a beautiful clear night that we could see the Milky Way. Sadly this morning shows that a large part of the Herault, Gard area is affected, Agde is flooded, and so is Sommieres. All the rivers in the area are flooded to some extent.
So sad for those who have been affected by this!
I hope everyone from here, as there are lots of us in that area, is safe and well and unaffected. And for those about to heard for the area, check your sites for up to date information.
