Interrupted French trip - Grandchild alert!

We have a dilemma. Having booked crossings for 5 weeks in May/June to visit Italy and France my daughter announced she was expecting a second child and the due date is right in the middle of our booked trip. My wife and I are thinking of leaving the van and car in France for a week or two to fly back to UK when she has the baby. Has anybody left their van in France with the car (or maybe left the car at a French airport) for a week or two?
