Driving through Lyon.

Just travelled back from southern France and took the usual by-pass around Lyon. A75 I think. It is a busy, two lane motorway that is a big detour. People used to say that sometimes it is quicker to ignore the usual routing signs and go through the middle
of Lyon (under th tunnels -pleasant memories). Last time we did that we went wrong. Any suggestions for next time?
