The KYDD Series by Julian Stockwin
Has anyone read any of the books in this series? I strongly recommend them.
The first book "Kydd" finds a young Wig maker Thomas Kydd going for a quiet drink in his local hostelry in the late 1700's and finding himself taken by a Naval Press Gang. He is taken on board a large 3 deck naval warship and the book relates his first
years settling into his new naval life. Subsequant books follow the similar path of other authers such as O'brien and Kent, and sees Kydd rising through the ranks until in his latest book "Inferno" he is now Sir Thomas Kydd, Post Captain of His Majesty's
ship Tyger.
As I said Stockwin follows a similar theme to O'Brien and Kent, but having read most of the works of those authors I consider Stockwin to be much superior and quite gifted in his ability to reconstruct the life aboard an early naval warship. Has anyone
else read this series?
I believe that KYDD and the earlier books may not now be available in the mainstream booksellers but they are well worth reading if you can find them.
