Those who read my posts will know that I like a bargain, so I thought I'd start a thread about good value restaurant meals!  This is our 12.50 euros meal, which includes a carafe of wine, at the Cafe de la Paix in St Chinian, bearing in mind that a picture is better than 1,000 words!!

My starter of Salade Fruits de Mer (with hot scallops in garlic butter in shells on the top, smoked salmon, mussels, squid, crevettes, and other seafood), plates are about 12 inches across!!!

OH's starter - an Assiette de Charcuterie:

My Piece de Boucher - filet of beef, with garlic potatoes, and a sort of garlicky ratatouille (and the only note of discord was the peppercorn sauce which is not nearly as good as mine!!)

OH's squid (I know, but he loves it and it tastes heavenly) cooked with saffron, parsley and garlic, saffron rice, and the same vegetables

and both of us had Ile Flottant - with caramel and still warm toasted almond flakes on top:

In one picture you can see the Pichet of wine, and the coffee is a whole euro extra!  You get as much bread as you can eat - refilled if you empty the basket, and a wine bottle of iced water.

The restaurant (Cafe de la Paix in St Chinian - the local PMU bar/restaurant)  has been going since 1852 - a recommendation in itself, and gets full every lunchtime.  You have to be there before 12.30 to get a table.  You can eat in a delightful garden under lime trees in dappled shade, or inside if you prefer.
