Taking a Motorhome into France Spain and Portugal

We bought a moterhome on retirment at the end of 2010

we used it a couple of times and were thinking of spending the winter in warmer climbs--but sadley and very unexpectedly my partner passed away. I now want to resurrect the dream as a single traveller but is it safe? i have heard stories of hijakings and
muggings in Aires-moterway stops being unsafe to stop at,ect,ect--any memebers who have done the trip or anyone that has advice-this novice would greatly appriciate it!.I would be planning a three or four month trip.
