Painted lady, a long distance flyer?

have just watched a recording of the BBC programme on the migration of the painted lady butterfly. Found it a bit disappointing. Short on science. Never actually explained how they proved the butterfly flew all the way from morocco for a start. Showed
lots of tracking gadgets but didn't fully explain how they arrived at the results they'd collected.
