Checking Caravan Wheel Nut Torque Settings. Why?

I am somewhat confused by the constant talk of checking caravan wheel nuts and tales of wheels coming off.

 

Why is it necesssary to check caravan wheel nut torque setting before evry journey?  You don't need to with a car!

Can anyone explain this to me?
