hi, we have friends who live in Villebois-Lavalette, approx 25km south of Angouleme. We are planning on a  trip, caravanNing en route from Calais, and back via Atlantic coast to Caen.

Anyone got any recommendations for a site south of Angouleme? Or even north if it's on our route? Ideally, we'd like to park the caravan for a couple of nights to stay with the friends (they have no space), but don't mind paying for the pitch. Timing is
early Sept (10th ish) so thinking it won't be too busy?

    Try
Camping Le Petit Lion at Vendoire,
, just south of Villebois-Lavalette, open in September..  We have friends who bought a house in the same area last year, and have looked for places to stay around the area.

Or an ACSI Card site at just 13 euros per night, including pitch, hook up, two adults, car and caravan, and electricity at just 13 euros per night, is

    L'Etang Bleu'
at Vieux-Mareuil or a 17 euros ACSI Card site is
    Gorges du Chambon

We have a friend with a house near Chalais and have always used the municipal site at La Roche Chalais when calling to see her, but Val's suggestions will be closer for you.

There is also a largish site at Angouleme itself - Camping Plan d'Eau, but CampingFrance.com will tell you all the sites there are in the villages in the area - some are listed in Charente departement  and some are in Dordogne - it's borderline country.

Thanks both. ValDa's suggestion is geographically spot on!
