S-max boot space versus Mondeo boot space

I've been toying with the idea of buying an S-Max to replace the Mondeo I currently tow with mainly down to the extra kerbweight of the S-Max versus the Mondeo. I went to the local showroom to have a look at an S-Max and was impressed overall with the look and feel.

What did disappoint me was the size of the boot (not with the extra seats up, with the seats flat). I don't base this on any technical data just the perception of the space versus the Mondeo. Because the seats don't actually fold flat to the floor of the boot, you seem to lose a few inches in height and this gave the impression of a smaller boot. My concern is that I wouldn't fit all the usual junk in the boot when towing particularly a full size awning, poles and groundsheet and more besides.

What are peoples experiences of the S-Max boot versus the Mondeo? Perhaps it's deceptively big??

Also any general opinions of the S-Max versus the Mondeo would be greatly appreciated!
