Cyclists- why do they ride in packs?

Just returned from a short break at Exebridge. However, the journey home was frustrating due to the lack of consideration for other road users by cyclists.

Driving on B classroad, it amazes me the number of lycra wearing cyclists who think it is fine to cycles 3 or 4  cycles wide , effectively creating a rolling road block. Too slow to follow and too dangerous to overtake.  If I am towing I am always aware
that perhaps my speed holding people up, so pull over to let people pass. 

Really frustrating and dangerous. Sorry for the rant.
