Towing with a new car

I've been trawling the net for advice on how soon to tow with a brand new car. It varies from straight away (towing actually helps the 'bedding in' process) to  at least 1000 miles solo.

Some of the information is quite old, so what's the current thinking? (It's a diesel.)
