Winter caravaning in Spain

We have traveled to Spain for short break but are now thinking about going for longer probably down to the costa del sol area in the winter. Does anyone have any tips re safety ( other than avoid service areas) and good sites. Are the 'natives' friendly
- we found the Murcia area failrly cool from Spanish. L
