Caravanning in France

So we have made the decision to travel to france for a two week holiday in August. We would like to travel to the dordogne. We live in west wales so would have to travel a distance wherever we sail from. Two adults and a child in a caravan and then my two
parents in a motor home. I am weighing up the costing of it all. ferry cost versus travelling versus tolls etc and would like some advice. I know there is a vast amount of sites avaiable but personal experience is priceless. TIA
