first time awning

 OK so I've bought a 'van, which came with an awning.   

  I don't know what make it is, there is a photocopied Dorema booklet in amongst the paperwork, but reading this, it doesn't really give an idiot's guide (which is needed). I've been told the best thing to do is practise putting it up, but I've no idea how
to start? There is a mention of quick lock pads, but not how to use them, or where to place them, what's a ladder strap?? HELP!!!
