Necessity of Sat Nav in Spain

Hello, we are planning our first trip to Spain in our motor home in the next few weeks.  We do not use a sat nav but many friends have suggested we purchase one.  My first questions is:

Do we need to purchase a special type for europe

Do people agree that we really do need one?
