French Aires, why would you?
We've just returned from a week touring Normandy. Before we went I thought we'd spend a few nights on the much lauded Aires de Camping Cars. Now I know I'm going to get a right battering on here, but I've got to tell you ' I don't like 'em '!!
We visted six and only actually stayed on one. The others I took one look at and drove away! The vans were packed on like sardines, dogs and kids were running everywhere, and I certainly wouldn't fancy drinking my water from those filthy sercice points!
Why would you possibly want to spend your precious holiday time parked on one of these places.
The ones we visited and left, to name and shame, were Le Touquet, Arromanches, Honfleur, Le Crotoy and Fort Mahon Plage. The one we stayed at was Neufchatel en Bray which was quite new and had hedged pitches with room to get deckchairs and a table out.
I should say that this isn't the first holiday we've contemplated aires as a possible stopover and as a rule we've been pretty dissappointed in the past also.
Anyway, knock me down and tell me how wonderful they are! Or is anybody on here bold enough to agree with me
