Warning...Cite Europe!
Just got back from 3 weeks in France, Switzerland and Italy and intend to put a few posts on here about the trip, when I get time.
But first lets start at the beginning. I intended stopping at Cite Europe in Calais, going and coming back. I had however read on this site and others that it was now a 'no go zone' due to the hordes of itinerants and immigrants, who were hunting in packs
to remove all belongings from your motorcaravan and then climb under your chassis for a free trip to England as soon as your back was turned! I therefore took precautions and fitted window alarms all round, removed the toilet cassette and, in it's space, fitted
a 2 ton safe (proved smelly at a later stage), wrapped razor wire around my chassis, fitted a steering lock and had our cockapoo trained up as a 'killer' guard dog.
Unfortunately on both our visits to Cite Europe, (as in the other ten times we've visited over the last 5 years!), we saw not one itinerant, immigrant or any other person of dubious character, so all my 'fortifications' proved useless! All we saw was ordinary
French folk going about the daily business, a few schooltrips, and plenty of camper vans from France, Italy, Belgium, UK and Germany.
So let this be a warning to you. Don't listen to the scaremongerers and doom merchants, if you want to stop at Cite Europe do so without fear. It's an ideal place to stop, near to Chunnel, close to supermarket, shops and restaurants, and right next door
to a huge police station!
