Great St Bernard Pass

I am planning to drive my motorhome through the Great St Bernard Pass (E27 Martigny, Switz to Aosta, Italy) next month. It’s a Michelin recommended route but I would appreciate any views or advice from members on the suitability of this route.

The old road, right over the top of the pass, or the tunnel which cuts off the top section?

It was OK for caravans in the 60s so can't believe it is worse than then!.....Over or under!

Just have a coat for the top its cold up there. Easy enough pass you should`nt have any problem at all and an enjoyable trip, the tunnel which we did`nt use seemed surprisingly high anyway. Parking on summit, plenty of information boards and if I remember
correctly a kennel with you know what in. We came along the old road through the Aosta Valley more interesting than the Autostrada, we thought the Aosta Valley was a bit of a strange almost creepy place perhaps it was just early morning.
