Getting round Paris

Has anyone got advice about the best route to get south from Calais and around Paris. I usually go from Calais, then Rouen, Chartres & Orlean. But how easy is the Paris Periphique with a caravan (mid week) ?

Anyone got a preferred route to the Pyrennes.
