German Christmas Markets via Hull – Cheap!

Thought someone out there might be interested in the deal I have just got from P&O Ferries.

We have in the last couple of years used P&O Ferries from Hull as we live in Yorkshire this saves us 2 days, 500 – 600 miles and with associated costs works out cheaper.  We usually book through Alan Rogers using the extra savings with a weekend ferry and
3 Camping Cheques, ie £59.80 cheaper than through the CC if you don’t need or can’t use 7 cheques.

We like to visit the Christmas Markets in Germany, as well as Belgium and The Netherlands. I tried to get a deal from Alan Rogers for a crossing this November/December but they were unable to help as they do not have an arrangement with P&O beyond September
and don’t anticipate a new one until later in the year, I assume this is also the case with the CC as they are both offering a price of £333.26 and no extra discount with Camping Cheques.

I have today booked an outward crossing for 2 on Wednesday 25th Nov. Hull to Rotterdam, Premier 2 bed outside cabin, returning Sunday 6th Dec. Zeebrugge to Hull, Premier 2 bunk outside cabin. Our motorhome is <7.0m long and <2.9m high.
With the Wednesday departure this trip would not be eligible for the Camping Cheque saving.
Cost of return crossing = £262  Bargain!!!

If you have ever considered going to the Christmas Markets now might be a good time.  One note of caution - If you are going to drive in Germany at this time of year you need Mud and Snow (M+S) or Winter tyres (on the caravan too) - Michelin Camping Agilis
are M+S.

If you want to go with ordinary tyres then stick to Belgium and The Netherlands.  The Christmas Markets in Brugge are OK (when compared with some of Germany’s stunners) the City itself is at its best at this time and the Ice Sculptures fantastic.  It is
easy to get to Gent, Antwerp or Brussels on the train all of which have good Christmas Markets.  If you want to go to some of the best German markets you could base yourself in Maastricht or Valkenburg in the Netherlands, both with good markets and use the
train to Aachen or Dusseldorf etc.

You will find a couple of our Christmas Market blogs here if you need convincing. There are some more photos
