ACSI & CC SatNav

There are a number of threads which discuss the merits or otherwise of the Snooper Ventura Caravan Club SatNavs.  I was going to add my thoughts to one of these but decided that what I have to say is slightly different to these threads.  My point relates
specifically to the Continental use of these units by caravanners, though more especially by motorcaravanners.  On balance I quite like my S6450, though the inability to upload one’s own POIs means I am highly unlikely to replace it with a new Snooper when
the time comes.

When I purchased the SatNav it was because much was made of the fact that the CC versions have CC (including Caravan Europe), ACSI, Bord Atlas and Camper Stop information including addresses, and often photos preloaded onto them.  Given our style of European
camping using a mix of CC (Europe campsites), ACSI Card sites, Aires and Stellplatz etc it appeared to be just what we needed. The mapping, software and this information would be regularly updated – brilliant.

The reality of the situation is different to my expectations.  I have just checked that my satnav software and mapping are “up to date” which they are.  When I say “up to date” I mean the latest available from the Snooper updates website.  The last mapping
update, which includes this CC specific data was October 2013, however,
the “latest” ACSI data is dated Oct 2012,
whilst the Bord Atlas is 01/13 and the Camper Stop 02/13.  We’ve had an ACSI card for many years and the sites are always changing, so up to date information is essential.  The next Snooper mapping update is
due in a few weeks.  The ACSI card scheme is for early and late season use so it is not good if each year’s early season information is not available until after you return home.  That will be me using the ACSI DVD on the netbook and digging out the old Garmin
to upload the very latest available (anywhere) POIs.

I should have remembered that Halley’s Comet and the Millennium both occur regularly.

Any thoughts?
