    Maybe not for publishing Pip but considering we've all lost a mass of great stories & interaction from the switch to the new forum I wish I'd kept everything that was postedfrown I will from now on, good ideasmile

    Pip, Thankyou for your post it prompted me to check back in my notes.

    After a walk if I see anything during the walk worth writing about I compose the story in notes then C&P it to CT. Because the thread has been going for a few years now I used to delete all the notes every 6months or thereabouts. As I looked back thru the notes in my old pad I found a couple from late 2015 & 2016 that'd not been Deleted User, on reading them again it took me back to the walk I had. Thankyou again for waking me up to the pleasure & importance of keeping these thingssmile

    Another gorgeous Winters day, another trip to the big copse/wood on the coast, I have unfinished business after being chased out previously by an irate Squirrel. Young un & Her Mum bounding over the meadow, today they turned & ran back straight to me for a quick stroke, words of encouragement & away again. We skirted our favourite copse with the log for sunrise watching, which will soon be in heavy use now the sun is making its way back from its Winter quarters after the solstice. We entered the coast copse thru the same Deer track, same acclimatising to the lower light levels. We walked past the stump from the first visit into the heart of the copse. I found a good thick windblown Tree, this Winters casualty, it was ideal for a resting spot. I'm down, Young un & Her Mum are up. The centre of a copse/wood has a sense of muffled security about it, literally hundreds of Trees & bushes & thousands of branches filter all noise & wind sounds. As my heartbeat calmed & my senses became more acute a feeling of tranquility reigned, that ahhhh sensation of solitary happiness. My 2 companions again struggle with the sense of wonder as they shuffle around deciding on the best position & waiting for me to ensure their ultimate comfort, I love these Dogs, they keep me grounded. I'm not that special after all, more a reasonable replacement for a sofa really. I leant down & wrapped my coat around them, I did get a lick of thanks from Young un, not Mum mind-She was already gently snoring. We 3 just calmed, surrounded by a most beautiful environment of Silvan solitude. It wasn't the return of the Squirrel nor the fact time had moved on that prompted me to move, it was my back aching due to the most unnatural position I was in. It was time to set off home, I did so with a heavy heart & aching back. My Dogs didn't mind one bit, it's just a big adventure on a daily basis for them, even the wander home excites them. Deer, Roe Deer that is feature heavily in my walks as they are so plentiful in this area of few folk but many woods & copses. To such an extent I hear the authorities are considering a cull to reduce the numbers. I hope that never comes to pass. A World with less guns & more Deer to me is far better for nature.     They always do Tinster, it's the one part of the day they know what to expect, as we know-Dogs love consistencysmile. It's our 'us' time. It is a wonderful dovetail, the 2 Girls, me & the landscape-nirvana?, oh yes my day starts with joy & ends with it too. It gives me pleasure to share it with like minded souls such as you.

    This morning felt like Spring had Sprung, it's the 3rd day of February 2017, but it feels like late March. The Sun was just about to creep above the horizon as we set off, blue sky & mild temps with a light breeze. Young un & Her Mum raced over the meadow as soon as I gave them the word, prior to that they just padded frantically with their front paws in anticipation. The morning is awash with Birdsong, gone has the Winter lament to be replaced by the burgeoning tune of Spring. Nowhere near the true morning chorus but far from the solo fluting of the brave Winter songsters. I realised that the Winter has not finished with us yet but it is a welcome taste of what's to come. I had more purpose as I strode out & was caught up in the moment. The Dogs just running wild in total abandonment also caught up in the joys of the promise to come. They both returned panting heavily with tails wagging. Sparrows in small groups fighting for supremacy as the breeding season approaches, so much so that they barely recognised the danger of 2 Dogs not 3 feet from them as they land in a combative maelstrom. I was close enough to the Dogs to kneel & hook my arms around them in case they acted instinctively. It's as if someone has turned the switch from Winter to spring today. Because of Young un & Her Mums excitement I realised there would be scant chance of any ground wildlife today so I just enjoyed the gentle warmth of the sun as it climbed above the hedgerows. A short walk today as I have Logs to deliver. I hope I'm not alone in my feelings of contentment at the surprising weather. Enjoy your day.

    Not at all Rocky, although my wife took Cassie on her morning walk today I'm taking advantage of the cloudless sky and mild temperature. You will know the area but we are about to leave to go on a walk from Great/Little Hatfield to Hornsea and back, but most of it on paths and  that run parallel to the rail track through Goxhill. It's much quieter and Cassie can be off lead most of the time with minimum road walking, a nice 6/7 mile round trip. smile

    Excellent area Dave, I'm often down there going from New Ellerby(parking behind the Pub) & up to Hornsea on my MTB on the old tracksmile I've not seen the walk you are doing, I'll keep my eyes open next time I'm outcool

    yes I love dogs too, but some owners leave a bit to be desired, the club rule about dogs on a lead at all times, like or not is there for the safety of us all, so why do some owners persist in not putting their dogs on a lead ' cos they are well behaved and have never bitten anyone' this of course may be true but  a) there is always a first time for everything and b) in case you haven't noticed dogs ain't robots, they do have a brain and a natural instinct. Don't get me wrong I love having my two off the lead but not on site, unless in a specified area and even then if I see an owner with a dog on the lead I will put mine on a lead. An owner with a dog on the lead is telling me that their dog does not get on with other dogs or people and I respect that. Just recently I was exercising my dogs off the lead in a field near where we live and another dog and owner appeared, his dog was off lead so I naturally assumed that his dog was sociable with other dogs. The guy started to shout and remonstrate, I said ' is there an issue here.' His response was ' my dog does not get on with other dogs'. Is it me or should his dog have been on a lead?

     I could go on about the club rule about not letting your dog urinate but I haven't found a way of preventing this, particularly first thing in a morning.

    turningal, welcome to the thread. You'll find that the vast majority of posters on here will agree with you re the rules of leads. A Dog does not come with a guarantee of safety with Humans or other Dogs. It is up to us to ensure it is trained & socialized & if it ain't then it should never be off the lead at all-no ifs or buts. We all love our Dogs but realise not everyone does, respect for others is a cornerstone of Dog ownership, anyone who disagrees shouldn't have a Dog. In the worse case scenario & a Dog attacks then it'll be the Dog that will be destroyed not the idiot owner that let it happenfrown. I hope you continue to post here, it's good to share our stories or just thoughts with like minded folk.

    The CC rules state that dogs should be on a lead whenever they are on a CC campsite.  As caring dog owners we should always comply with that rule. 

    As regards allowing a dog micturate and defecate on site, (unless it is within the designated Dog Walk) it is clearly antisocial behaviour and should not be tolerated by anybody

    We all love our dogs and like them to accompany us when on holiday but we should make sure that the dog does not spoil the enjoyment of the other campers.

    Hi, turningal. It's good to hear your views. Our last dog was a lovely boy in all ways bar one - he hated other dogs and would fly at them. Although, he never hurt a dog, he would pin it down and give it a good talking to. Consequently, he could only be let off his lead in secure dog free conditions. 

    I appreciate hearing that you put yours on leads when you see another dog on a lead as I've lost count of the number of times out of control dogs came running up to ours when he was on a lead and received a telling off from him. Apparently, it was always our fault despite him being on a lead and the other dogs running loose and failing to respond to their owners! People, huh?

    The most important thing about dog ownership is that you care for your dog ...... nobody should dictate what you dress your dog or yourself in, it's called free will.

     I still can't stop my dogs urinating when they feel the need. So that's one rule I can't keep ..... anti social, yes ok I will have to take that, is it a 'kick me out the caravan club' offence by the way have you seen the state that some members leave the showers and toilets!

    Dogs pee, it's a fact of life. Responsible behaviour means attempting to take your dogs off site or to the dog walk and not letting them pee on someone else's pitch - not on yours either, not letting them cock a leg over someone's awning, aquaroll, tow hitch, the wardens plant pots etc. In short, doing all you can to avoid annoying others. You won't always succeed and sometimes you will annoy people merely by having the audacity to turn up with two quiet, well behaved dogs. I think you'll find, though, that most of us will welcome the chance to meet new canine friends.

    Enjoy your dogs and enjoy your vanning.

    Me too Dianne! So much so that I have three! 6 month old brother and sister Isla and Angus and 9 year old Jasmine. I have had 6 Westies including these over the last 22 years.

    Its the pups first time away in the van next week. We've had a one night trial on the drive and they loved it!

    Westies are such great little characters. Lots of fun but stubborn too when they want to be!

    We have been looking for our next family member for nearly a year,after our beloved Border Collie left us 14months ago,and are finding that the Tinternet in one way is good as it is easier to see what the rescue centres have,but on the other hand as we are finding that if they are "available" they are now nearly always  "problem "dogs,  our last two Collies have been from rehoming centres,but more and more seem to be "strays" from overseas now,Ireland especialy,We have Visited several centres,after seeing a dog online and reading their "CV",and advised to visit only to be told the Whole story,and then they have tried to "encourage" us to take a dog they have had Long term,or found that the dog we have travelled fifty miles or more is "reserved"subject to home checks,and the major rehoming centres use call centres,so there does not seem to be direct communication with where the dog is at the timefrown

    Sorry for rant but needed to get it off my chest

    Another Joyous Winters day, a light dusting of snow overnight, we all walked in a light snow shower, Young un & Her Mum loving it, Mum with Her wax coat on. The levels of Bird activity is rising now, as I walked I could hear both blue & great tits calling & flitting around the hedgerows as the sound of the pre dawn chorus is discernible, not cacophonous but more than it was a few weeks ago. Young un & Her Mum were more adventurous today, they are both making forays across the snow topped growing wheat, as always they are together in their shared happiness. We were heading to the copse & log today for a drinking session, that is drinking in the beauty of a Winter's day. Just on cue we were joined by 2 squabbling male blackbirds in a dispute over who has the rights to the territory, I love the wildlife theatre, front row seats as the actors perform for us, I say 'us' I mean me as both the Dogs are again ensconced in the folds of my jacket & held in comfort & warmth. The territorial dispute came to nothing really, they stood side by side eyeing one another, one of them flew closer to the other & made a probing run at the trespasser, the trespasser flew off. No fisticuffs at all. Just in the distance I noticed the old rookery is getting a Spring clean since the snow had stopped, a number of rooks are making repairs to the mass of nests, I can hear them cawing to each other as the call of Spring is heeded. I look forward to the pace of the the sensing of Spring growing within the bird & animal world regardless of the snow as the next couple of months unfold. According to the experts we have almost 2hrs of light more than at the Winter Solstice & it's that extra light that is driving the interest of the birds. Young un & Her Mum just laid on my lap sharing our warmth for mutual benefit. Each day that passes I wonder if it will ever be bettered, sometimes it is but it's always matched. This is were the story ends as I just stare down at my 2 companions gently breathing, I never want it to end, contentment comes cheap in my small world. Enjoy your day.

    Thanks, Rocky. You have there a mixture of winter weather with the burgeoning of Spring breaking through. A blend of the seasons. You and your dogs had the best of both worlds this morning.

    Here's Bobby, a rescue Westie who's been with us for 6 years. We love him to bits. Stubborn 'aint the word for it! If I start to go down one fork of a footpath when we're over the fields he just sits down and stare me out unless I retrace my steps and go down 'his' choice of route. I don't mind, after all, it's his walk.
