Adblue?, what a shock...
I read that this Adblue additive has become a valuable tool in the fight against air pollution from Trucks. What a shock when I did a bit of research. It is 2/3rds water & 1/3rd urea, that's Urine in my book. Yet it actually more than pays for itself in
increased MPG. I wonder how long before the Car will be using it. We're saving the Planet with Water & Wee. . . .Who'd have thought it, darned clever.

doesn't make you get more mpg or everyone would use it. it is corrosive to many metals and the fumes can be dangerous to humans. it is a cheap fix that manufacturers are using to beat the emissions law. our hgv drivers used to call it pig p?ss.

IMy Audi A6 needs AdBlue. it uses about 5lt per month depending on mileage and the amount of motorway v town driving.

Poppy, take a look in the Solos section further up the forum front page. You’ll find several like minded people there.

My VW Touareg, which is coming up to 3 years old, uses AdBlue, so it's been around in cars for some time now. I've just paid £11 for 10 litres to top up the tank which I need to do once or twice a year, since I only do 10-12k miles per year. When I first got the car, I thought having to fill it up was going to be a nuisance but I hardly think about it now.

Was / is it not a vital part of 'Fixing' dye into cloth ??
Seem to recall being told thats why only gents who smoked a ripish variety of twist etc in their pipes could ever wear real Tweed !! Might even be the reason for the central three letters too
Seriously tho' I do know that the north - eastern cities used to have 'wee collectors' for the weaving industry -- well before MY time, Honest !

‘Pee takers’, I’ve never thought of you as one Muscles👍🏻😊

Unlikely, unless you have access to very high grade urea and an RO/DI unit. The AUS32 specification is very tight. The urea and the water both have to be very pure. Any additional minerals can have expensive consequences for engines.
If you did have access to the necessary grades, the recipe itself is very simple.

How is it that something always comes back to bite you?? Having said earlier that I don't even think about the Adblue anymore because top-ups are so infrequent - the warning message came up to tell me to top up. So I did - but the warning message didn't go away. So - top up some more until the tank is absolutely full - but warning message is still there every time I start the engine. Now I know that once the 'countdown' starts, there is no ignoring it since the engine will stop once zero miles is reached, regardless of how much Adblue is in the tank. Anyway the car was in for service this week so off to the main dealers and I asked them to fix the Adblue problem. They diagnosed a faulty 'Nox' sensor and fitted one the following day - only for me to get in the car to drive away, to see that pesky message again. So much for 'main dealers'!
Back into the workshop whilst I hang around waiting and eventually, they diagnosed it had needed a software update to the engine management system - problem solved but I am still struggling to understand how out-of-date software had caused the problem in the first place when it has been OK for the last three years?? The days are long gone when, if I had a problem with my car, I used to get a spanner to it!

My T6 California uses around i0 litres for 7,000 miles. That's around £7. It will improve from there as the engine settles in, I'm not really going to fuss about it. It's easy to find, easy to put in, something that requires an action about every 4,000 miles and I've spent a lifetime taking the piss anyway

Yeah, we have one as well now.
How about a competition to see who can pour it the highest?

I have a Mercedes ML350AMG which runs on Diesel and AdBlu. The two fillers are next to each other under the usual fuel filler cap. I have done nearly 8,000 miles since I had it, but still not had the low AdBlu warning come up. Have been warned not to ignore it when it does because after a suitable delay the car will go into limp mode for a while & then stop altogether. These new very clean diesels will just not run without the AdBlu.

I watched a Channel 4 Dispatches programme recently, which highlighted that many lorries have a device fitted which over-rides the ad-blue requirement by fooling the vehicles emissions technology, and results in pollution way in excess of what it should be. All a bit of a farce at the moment if this information is correct.
