France route

Just started planning the actual route i have to take to the sites in france. First site we are staying at is
Parc du val loire just east of tours. All the route planners take me and a caravan through Paris but i have been told avoid paris at all costs.
The second route would be through Rouen, again such a good idea?. Anybody done this kind of journey and what route did you take?
