On a previous discussion I promised to report back after using the new service from Portsmouth to Le Havre. It is advertised as a no frills ferry. However, our experience was excellent. Our outward ferry left at 12.30am, which through Portsmouth's proximity to London (2hrs), meant we did not need an overnight at a site before hand. Once on the ferry first impressions were very good and we went to our pre booked seats, rather like aircraft type, but with better cushions. There was a restaurant and the food whilst basic was excellent. (Would recommend the roast beef). There was also a bar with plenty of seating and Televisions. Besides a couple of slot machines and a cinema there seemed not much for the children to do. On our return we got the 10.30 evening departure and had a pre booked cabin. The cabin was very clean and comfortable with full ensuite including a shower, and we had a good night's sleep on the very comfortable bed. The room was fully and effectively air conditioned so there were no smells from continuous use, something were worried about. So all in all we would highly recommend using this service, if you do not require the 'cruise' style ferry, with all the trimmings.
