Waste of a day?

We are new to touring, and so far find in England about 200 miles is our comfortable daily limit, with a mix of motorways and a roads. To date, we have always reached our final destination in one go. We are stopping in Roncey (near Cherboug) and then going
to Royan. Do we go down in one day, or stop off halfway? It just seems we will waste a day, each way, if we stop off with packing up, travelling and then setting up again, or am I missing something. If the solution is to break the journey, can you suggest
a stop off with something to see or do in the evening? After over 50 years together, dining out, whilst being a delight for the pallette, lasts rather less time than it once did.
