Parking at Portsmouth

We are shortly travelling from Portsmouth for the first time with a caravan, The departure is at 12.00pm so need to get there latest 11.00am. Our journey will encompass the M1,M25 and M3 so there will be loads of opportunities for delays. So we will leave really early as there is only one ferry per day (Brittany Economique). So my question is what should I do about parking, if I have a free run, and get there extremely early? Do I stop somewhere outside Portsmouth or is there somewhere at the port?
