Was it always this complicated?
Forty years ago with three children, we would stick some tape on the headlights, drive down to Dover and jump the first ferry and head off south. We would use Canvas holidays tents for accomodation. My job at the time prevented me from spending hours planning.
Now, it just seems to have become complicated. Working out the equations of which ferry to take when considering fuel and tolls and time. Do we have an overnight, if so over here or over there.Where will we park if we get to the port too early. Then there is the legal equipment to buy (Why do I need two breathalysers?). What ampage will there be, will there be reverse polarity, will the toilets have seats on them and paper to go with. Then there are cheques, vouchers and other special offers to choose, and what about breakdown insurance cover and personal insurance. Do we book in advance and have a rigid itinary or take a chance?
The club provide a brilliant service, trying to help on the phone, emails, publications, but by the time I have sorted the above out, I think I will need a holiday.
I am sure on returning from our first trip we will say "why were we concerned, it is simple really" but until then?
