Warning About Theft At Col De Portalet
Recently returned from a super 3 month trip round Portugal. Returning over the Pyrenees, we used the Col de Portalet route (first valley East of Somport tunnel route). At about midday, we reached the former border and decided to have a browse around the
shops there, Returning to our motorhome after only about 15 minutes we carried on in to France and stopped after a lovely drive through stunning scenery by a lake to have a brew. My husband went to turn on the gas and found he couldn't get in to the locker,
discovered somebody must have tried to open it with a screwdriver. This had also happened with the toilet cassette locker door, We then discovered our laptop and a mobile phone had been taken from the van, even though we had locked it and it was locked when
we returned to it from the shop. We can only surmise the thief had somehow cloned out fob while we were in the shop. So we wanted to warn other motorhomers to be very vigilant at these border shops. The gendarmes were not interested when we reported what had
happened as they said we were in Spain and should return there to report it to the Spanish police.
